Jacob SteinAbout me:

My goals:

  • To bring people together through rhythm, music and play.
  • To provide an open platform for people to connect to music and rhythm
  • To create a community of participants that engage and support each other
  • To share this rhythmic process freely so it can be passed on readily

My Passions:

  • Contributing positively to the world around me
  • Community
  • Rhythm & Music
  • Learning & Personal growth
  • Expanding awareness

Community Rhythm Works, powered by TaKeTiNa, is one way I want to share what i love and grow with my community. This move to Community Rhythm Works as the primary title is to help me refocus what I am doing on openness, inclusion and sharing the love of what I do. Of course I want to bring amazing change and experiences to people, but that is something that can come once people feel safe and welcome in a community.

I have lived in the northwest almost my entire life. I love the weather, people, and the trees. I am continually grateful for the life and opportunities I have had. Other experiences have helped me in refocusing my learning and leadership.  Portland Ultimate (Frisbee) and Group based voice lesson at a now gone vocal academy had a lasting impact and helped shape my most recent efforts at making rhythm and music more accessible and fun for everyone. A special thanks to those teachers and teammates that have helped me continue learning and growing.

I must note that none of this would have been possible had Mary Kogen not showed up in my University Choir class November 22, 2000. She came in and blew my mind with this rhythm work that I just could not understand. When I tracked her down months later she welcomed me with open arms. She fed me many Tuesday nights and treated me like a human. I don’t know how else to say it. She was a mentor, colleague and friend. My partner in Rhythm and Learning. She is and will ever be missed.
